A critical partner for road safety

Go Traffic Management were instrumental in making the roads safe following a significant burst of a water main on the A57.

The water main burst caused huge disruption and safety concerns as the water flooded over the major road and impacted 20 of the roads surrounding it. Our teams jumped into action to deliver a swift and safe solution. The priority for Go Traffic Management was to ensure road users were kept safe and diversions led to as little disruption as possible whilst the work to fix the main was taking place.

Due to the sheer volume of the water and the location our teams worked with the local council and the fire and police emergency services. We collaborated to develop the best possible traffic management solution to meet the needs of those making the area safe, those fixing the issue and the members of the public to carry on with their day safely and with minimum disruption.

Our teams closed 20 roads, including the busy A57. We provided eight manned stations around the source of the disruption and brought in heavy equipment to assist tankers feeding water away from nearby properties. We put specialists in place to man the traffic as well as bringing in the latest equipment to cope with the demand and swift resolution required.

Following the initial safety set up, our teams delivered effective traffic management solutions for a three week period, changing diversions and optimising routes alongside the work taking place to fix the issue.

“The rapid on site response and skilled work needed to design a complicated road diversion by GTM  was crucial to the safety of these repairs. The collaboration efforts between their teams, councils and emergency services significantly minimised the disruption. Thank you to GTM” Client representative.

GTM announce major investment in latest hi-tech Eurolight® traffic lights

GTM have placed orders to the value of £2.8m with SRL to supply the latest innovation in portable traffic lights. The new range, called Eurolight®  comes with a mixture of traffic, pedestrian and ADS (Adaptive Detection System).   The benefits are that the intelligent ADS lights reduce congestion by learning and constantly adapting to real-time traffic movement. The ADS lights make automatic adjustments of ‘green’ times using machine learning algorithms, obtained through radar detectors. As well as operating on a standard 2 phase traffic light system, they can be used for up to 4 phase systems.

Daryl Cheetham, executive director at GTM explained: “We’re investing in industry leading technologies. Clients are looking for solutions which reduce congestion whilst works are carried out and want to ensure public safety. We’ve seen results showing journey times at road works significantly improve with Eurolight®. The hi-tech lights protect the safety of operatives on site and are cost efficient. Added benefits include enhanced public perception – removing potential complaints from pedestrians and motorists”.

Malcolm Johnstone, Hire Division managing director at SRL said: “For many years we’ve worked closely with GTM to deliver our portfolio of products, both hire and purchase. Most recently, we were pleased to deliver our biggest ever combined order of Eurolight®, to be delivered over twelve months to GTM. We believe the key to our successful partnership is SRL’s ability to offer quality product balanced with a dependable, reliable service. It’s a privilege to partner with GTM.”

Peter Almond, Manufacturing Division managing director at SRL stated, “Over many years the strong, friendly partnership we’ve developed with the team at GTM means we really understand their strategic objectives and the products they need to achieve them. Safety and dependability are top priorities and SRL’s ability to supply robust, reliable products backed-up with a four year guarantee and comprehensive servicing package was instrumental in securing this order. Our relationship has gone from strength to strength in the last 12 months and we look forward to even greater things in the months and years to come.”

GTM Bam Nutall

Here at GTM, we provide a wide range of traffic management solutions to suit all type of projects. From helping large wind turbines get to their destination, to ensuring safe passage for those commuters whilst essential maintenance is taking place on motorways, to reacting to emergency situations immediately and making communities safe. We have got it covered.

Our experts have built up an impressive, expansive and long-standing portfolio of experience supporting major construction projects. We tailor our services to each project’s needs. Recently, GTM helped a major construction project undertaken by BAM Nuttall with their traffic management requirements.

Following flooding in the area, Shade Chapel in Todmorden had to be demolished after it became unsafe. The Chapel had suffered extreme water damage and was at risk of collapse. To make the area safe the difficult decision was taken to demolish the building and as it was situated near to a busy road a full traffic management plan was required.

Our traffic management teams at GTM worked closely with the client, Environment Agency and local resident committees before the work plan to develop the best solution for closing the road, ensuring safety and minimal disruption to the local community.

We placed five specialists on site, manning the traffic 24 hours a day during the work, to maintain closure points and continue resident engagement as required.

The project was a great success and is a fantastic example of how our GTM traffic management contributes to the wider vital infrastructure work across the UK.
