Project - Oldham Metrolink Traffic Management
Duration: 2 years+
As part of the recently appointed approved TM supplier to MPT on Oldham Town Centre Metrolink, GTM were faced several months ago with a joint problem from MPT in how to manage traffic around Oldham Mumps while works progressed.
After several months of consultation with MPT & OMBC, a traffic management resolve was provided that “cured” MPT’s problem and allowed the works to progress albeit working to minimal road widths.
The Traffic Management design required large traffic contraflows of both East Bound and West bound traffic on the extremely busy A62 Oldham Dual Carriageway with localised road closures and lane closures.
GTM worked in conjunction with Greater Manchester Urban Traffic Control who installed a completely new permanent traffic system that ran back to back with the opening of the new town centre link road.
All this activity had to be half hourly coordinated to allow a smooth transition of these 3 separate phases to achieve the ultimate goal over a 2 day period.
Paul Wotton - Senior Highways Engineer Oldham Metropolitan Council:
“An extremely well executed Traffic Management System under extreme conditions”.
